Entrepreneur Brings Artists to Lee’s Summit
There’s a lot to do when you start a small business: define your service or product, understand your audience, map out your brand, find a space to work, order business cards, set up the books, and manage the money. I could go on and on.
Many small business owners are hustling and scaling their business. Others are maintaining a business plan built years ago and letting the business do its thing while staying relevant in a changing business landscape. Entrepreneurship looks different for everyone, and small business certainly is not all sexy app development.
The Artist as an Entrepreneur
One special flavor of entrepreneur is the artist. The truth is that “starving artists” may be starving because they don’t know how to do business. While they excel at creating a product from their imagination, they may not be as familiar with how to manage the business-side of their business. Artists, like all entrepreneurs, need organization, systems and processes, and experience to execute their ideas.
Bridge Space is the coworking space and entrepreneur incubator that encourages artists to bring their art to Lee’s Summit. Founder Ben Rao recently commissioned a mural for a building he owns. Ben believes that artists can be entrepreneurs and art brings a city to life.

Ben isn’t the only one who sees the global economic and social contributions from arts. A Cultural Times survey estimated that creative industries generate USD$250 billion in revenue a year, creating 29.5 million jobs worldwide. That’s huge!
Some call this creative entrepreneurship . Others call artists “ ARTrepreneurs .” Regardless of the language you use, there are too many similarities to keep artists separate from entrepreneurs anymore. Let us leave no starving artist behind, who struggles with the tasks that live on the other side of the brain.
Create Art at Bridge Space
Together with UMKC Enactus and Got Art Gallery on Third , Bridge Space is inviting artists (and ARTrepreneurs!) to bring their art to Bridge Space. We’re accepting applications for our Call For Artists to apply to create art inside of Bridge Space. Maybe you want to paint a mural. Perhaps you prefer digital art. Maybe you want to create a sculpture. You can apply to design and produce something at Bridge Space for everyone to see.
Questions during this process should be sent to amber@bridgespace.us .
